23 things I learned at 23

I know some weeks went by since I celebrated my birthday at the end of March, but I kept thinking about some things that I have learned so far.  They say that as you get older, you get wiser, but instead, I just feel that I am left with more questions and I get more confused about life as time goes by (how ironic, right?).

Even if I am just 23, and I still have a lot of things to figure out, I want to share the  23 things I have learned so far:

1.Family and friends

If you are healthy,  have your family by your side, good friends you can count on and will be there for you no matter, you are already luckier than you think you are. Make sure you tell/remind them how important they are in your life!

2. Be kind

One major thing I have learned so far is to be kind to everyone you meet! You never really know what a person is going through behind closed doors and most of the time, you don’t even know their story and what issues they are struggling with. You don’t want to add to that. Be kind, it costs nothing! 🙂

3. Bad parts

You must get through the bad to get to enjoy the good. I guess this is just how life works: you will have ups and downs, and you will have to learn to deal with them.

4. Believe in yourself

“Stand up for something you believe in, even if it means standing alone.”  I couldn’t have said it better. If you believe in yourself, then everything is possible. So make the choices that make you happy and always take the choices that make you feel good about yourself.

5. No one really knows what they are doing either

We often tend to compare with the people surrounding us, and we believe that they know exactly what they are doing with their lives. The truth is that just a small percentage of your peeps know exactly what they are striving for, while the rest are just like you, with not even a single clue of what is going on. Relax, you will figure everything out!

6. Failures

You will fail… probably more times than you win, but you will learn more from failures than you will from success. Make sure not to give up easily.

7. Travel

Travelling will teach you more than school has ever taught you. You will gain so many experiences and meet so many people. Travel as often and as much as you can!

8. Let it go

Sometimes holding on to something or someone can hurt more than letting it go. If you feel that a certain situation, person doesn’t fit in your life anymore, just listen to Elsa and let it go!

9. Give your best

Always do the best you can, because in this way you will always look back and be at ease that you did everything you could.

10. Say “NO”

Learn to say “NO”. If you don’t feel comfortable with doing something that someone is asking you to do, then simply say no. Life is to short to waste your time doing things that don’t make you happy.

11. Disconnect to connect

Social media is a great way to connect with your friends and discover new trends and what is going on in the world, but it is important to be able to take a break from it as well as from other things which take up a lot of your energy. It is important to have breaks and recharge your batteries.

12. Push your limits

Being in the comfort zone can be so easy, but rarely fun things happen there. Get out of your comfort zone and push your limits, learn something new, do something you have never done before.

13. You can’t please everyone

Well… are you living your life for them or for yourself? Some will dislike you, while some will love you. Surround yourself with the people who bring the best out of you! Also, you will outgrow friends and friends will outgrow you… you win some and lose some… this is how life works.

14. Time takes time

Trust the timing of your life! You will graduate, you will find a job, you will find your soulmate… just give it time.

15.You will get hurt

You will be hurt by people you have never expected would do anything to hurt you. That doesn’t necessarily makes them bad persons, it’s just the fact that they had their best interest at heart and made choices thinking about themselves.

16. Forgive

Learn to forgive those who have done you wrong. Life is too short to hold grudges and to be filled with negative vibes.

17. Don’t go with the crowd

Probably this is one of the best things I have learned! If you don’t believe/like something, but the rest do, then just listen to your gut and stand out from the rest. Make your own choices!

18. Tell the truth

Keep it real with the people around you. Say the truth even if your voice shakes. Truth hurts, but a comforting lie will not help either.

19. Be a beginner

Allow yourself to be a beginner, no one starts as an expert, knowing it all, right from the start.

20. Problems

We are confronted daily with problems, but don’t worry, because every problem has a solution. You just have to find the right one. 😉

21. “Adulting”

I must admit that not having to go to school is terrifyingly amazing. But then you have to adult and have responsibilities… there is that.

22. Choices

You are always one choice away from a totally different life. If you don’t like something about your life, change it. It’s just as easy as that!

23. Be yourself

Don’t try to pretend to be someone you are not. Discover who you are and what what you love. Make peace with yourself! As soon as you clarify this aspect,  things will start to fall into place. 🙂

What is one thing you have learned so far? 🙂
